I've been interpreting for 30 years and plan to go for another 30. I like working just about anywhere. I find myself in a lot of graduate programs which is a lot of fun. I also enjoy teaching the occasional workshop or dreaming one up and having someone else teach it. Being on the RID board is a great way to network with the interpreters who are truly engaged in the work and the sustainability of this career. I'm also on the board of a community land trust where we teach people how to grow food in the city. When I'm not working or at a meeting I love to read and play Scrabble. My daughter Carey, 29 is my toughest competitor. She's in northern California, my homeland, a place I visit often.

I am a C.O.D.A. and have been interpreting my entire life. I was born into the Deaf World where I feel comfortable and “at home”. I am tri-lingual and tri-cultural (Polish was my first language, with sign language second, and I did not learn English until I went to kindergarten). In addition to NIC Master certification from RID I hold a BA in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Since moving to New England in June 2005 I have been working as a freelance sign language interpreter in various settings all over Rhode Island as well as the Southcoast of Massachusetts. My work primarily puts me in medical, psychiatric, educational, agency, business, and government settings. I also work as a video relay interpreter. I love the variety in the types of work I do and the people I meet while doing it.

I relocated to my home state of RI from Indiana on 11/1/10. I am a graduate of an ITP. I submitted an application for licensure in 10/10 and my RI licensure is in "Pending" status at the present time. The settings that I have interpreted in the state of Indiana include: medical, surgical, elementary, secondary, postsecondary and community. My favorite Deaf/HH population to work with is secondary and postsecondary students as well as in medical/surgical settings. I do not enjoy platform or theatrical interpreting. I am excited to be back home in RI and to work as an interpreter.

NEW: RI Registry of Interpreters Public Database
In the spirit of RID's original goal, to establish a registry of interpreters to serve the Deaf Community, RI RID has developed a database for people to access a general list of interpreters. The list will include contact information, credentials, and bio's of RI RID members. The database is voluntary, and the information that is published will be based on submissions entered through the form below. The database is not a referral service. The registry is designed to give people access to a list of working interpreters in the RI area. All of the interpreters listed are small business owners who use this list showcase their skills for future work. The database is just starting as of 2011 and we hope to see it grow throughout the year. If you would like to be added to the database, please fill out the form below.
