Spotlight: Interpreting for the Theatre
Anne Marie Mancini and Jon Henry tell why they enjoy theatrical interpreting
after their interpretation of a 2009 performance of A Christmas Carol.
"Why do I like theater interpreting?  I love it because A: I used to be a theater major.  So transferring from my theater major roots to my interpreting roots and blending those two worlds were a great marriage between the two.  It also gives me the opportunity really to explore and understand the language and meaning behind some of what's going on on stage and how to translate into to ASL.  It's challenging but it's fun at the same time.  And it's really, like Anne Marie was mentioning earlier, that relationship with your partners and learning from them and learning and feeding off one another.  And really having that nice, nice connection with one another."

"So why do I like theatrical interpreting?  Really good question.  I look forward to the camaraderie of working with my fellow interpreters on something that's actually very creative.  And we have all the prep time to, ya know practice and work together.  It's a wonderful part of their work I get to see and it's just been fabulous doing it."
