Just want to share an update with you all regarding RI General Law 5-7-1. There was a Hearing in connection with our revisions. Hayley, Steve and myself went to testify in support of the Bill and the work we accomplished.
The Committee (HEW) recommended it be held for further study. The reason behind this has to do the the BCI requirement. The Attorney General's Office was concerned as to whether want to require a state or federal BCI. They would support it if we clarify the language.
The ACLU was in opposition because there was no specifics regarding the types of crimnal charges and the time the charges were filed. Someone could potentially be barred from licensure for a minor innfraction to the law ten years ago.
That being said, I will be working with Steve Florio and perhaps one of our colleagues that has expertise in the legal arena.
Thanks for your letters of support.
